The founders of Richmond-based Uppy’s Convenience Stores are about to meld convenience and entertainment in Chesterfield County. Stephen Uphoff and family announced Thursday that they will build Uptown Alley, a $19.6 million, 55,000-square-foot, entertainment complex on 14.5-acres off U.S. 360 at its intersection with Commonwealth Center Parkway.
The building will offer 40 bowling lanes on two floors, two full-service restaurants, the “Uphoff Rotunda” (a wooden bar that will seat more than 100 people), arcade games, private rooms for group and corporate functions, Wi-Fi accessibility and electronics for fun or professional use throughout the facility. The family will share its construction plans during a groundbreaking ceremony at the site on Tuesday, June 14 at 11 a.m. Construction will begin this month with the complex scheduled to open June 2012. Managed by the Trifecta Management Group, Uptown Alley will be among the largest entertainment projects in Virginia. The general contractor for the project will be Taylor & Parrish.
The Uphoff family is the founder and largest single stock owner of Uppy’s Convenience Stores, a 68-store chain of Virginia convenience stores, Southside Oil, the largest ExxonMobil fuel distributor in the U.S. and Mid Atlantic Convenience Stores (MACS). All of the businesses are headquartered in Chesterfield.
