Automotive parts manufacturer to expand in Botetourt

Dynax America Corp. plans to expand its manufacturing facility in Botetourt County, creating 95 new jobs.

The $15.66 million expansion is needed to accommodate new contacts from Ford, General Motors and Daimler. Virginia competed against China for the project.

Dynax currently has 360 employees at its Botetourt facility, which manufactures clutch discs, driver plates, clutch packs and torque converter pistons for automatic transmissions .

Dynax America is a subsidiary of Dynax Corp., which is based in Hokkaido, Japan. It opened a facility in Virginia in 1996.

“We are very optimistic about our company’s growth and development in Botetourt County, Virginia,  and would like to thank our partners who have made this expansion possible,” Kagenori Fukumura, president of Dynax America, said in a statement.

Gov. Bob McDonnell approved a $200,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund for the project. The company also is eligible? to receive a major business facility job tax credit from the state.
