Alliant Techsystems is relocating its headquarters to Arlington

Alliant Techsystems Inc. (ATK) will relocate its corporate headquarters Oct. 1, to Arlington. The defense contractor, currently located in Eden Prairie, Minn., plans to expand existing office space by taking an additional floor at 1300 Wilson Blvd. The company has about 50 employees in Northern Virginia and said in a press release that it plans to maintain a strong presence in Minnesota, including about 210 corporate employees.

Altogether, ATK employs about 2,700 people in Minnesota and 3,500 people in the mid-Atlantic region, where it operates facilities in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
Mark W. DeYoung, the company’s president and CEO, said the move will put ATK closer to its federal customers.  “The relocation of ATK’s headquarters to the Washington D.C., area will provide our company with opportunities for increased engagement with our customers and Congress, as well as with our aerospace and defense industry peers that already are located in the region,” he said in a statement.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell welcomed the company. “We are pleased that ATK is joining the vibrant aerospace and defense community that contributes so much to the commercial base of our state …”

ATK is a Fortune 500 aerospace, defense and commercial products company with operations in 22 states, Puerto Rico, and internationally. It has annual revenues of about $4.8 billion.
