December 06, 2010 2:29 PM

Virginia National Defense Industrial Authority (VNDIA) has selected R. Stanton Scott as its executive director.

Scott, who is currently VNDIA’s military project manager, will assume the role on Dec. 13.

“(Scott) has administered a very complex, multimillion dollar grant program that has been instrumental in retaining the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) and Naval Air Station Oceana mission in Virginia,” said Robert Magnus, retired Marine general and chairman of the VNDIA board.

The VNDIA was created by the General Assembly in 2005 to provide technical assistance and coordination between the Commonwealth and the Department of Defense, which supports 900,000 jobs in the commonwealth and spends more than $54 billion in Virginia.

Prior to joining VNDIA, Scott worked as a senior consultant at Executive Communications Inc. in Louisville, Ky,. and served 20 years in the Army. He moved to Virginia in 2004 to pursue a doctorate in political science and public policy at The George Washington University, where he is currently writing his dissertation.
