Michael J. Friedlander has been named founding executive director of the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute.
He has been the Wilhelmina Robertson Professor and chair of the Department of Neuroscience and the director of Neuroscience Initiatives at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Friedlander received an undergraduate degree in biology from Florida State University. He received his doctorate from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in physiology and biophysics and completed a National Institutes of Health post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Virginia.
