Randal J. Kirk resigned from the University of Virginia Board of Visitors. In a letter to Gov. Bob McDonnell, Kirk, who had been living in Pulaski County, said he had moved to Florida, which made it “not practical” to serve on the board. Kirk also said his Florida residency might have disqualified him from remaining on the board, which caps the number of out-of-state members.  (The Washington Post)

Mervyn King and Sammy Redd, both of Martinsville, have been reappointed to the Virginia Museum of Natural History board. King is a retired military veteran and Redd is a coordinator of college access at New College Institute. (News release).
James E. Isaac, Jr., of Kenbridge, appointed to the Virginia Family and Children’s Trust Fund. He is a special education teacher at Mecklenburg County Public Schools. (News release)

Carlyle Ramsey, president of Danville Community College, announced he will retire in August 2013. Ramsey has led the college for 20 years. (Danville Register & Bee)

SHENANDOAH VALLEY

Alan Connor, the president of Staunton-based Cadence Inc., will become the company’s CEO next year. Connor will succeed Peter Harris as CEO in April 2013. Harris will continue to serve as chairman of the board. (VirginiaBusiness.com)

George Hranowskyj, a Norfolk developer, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for his role in schemes that defrauded the government of millions of dollars in historic tax credits and helped lead to the collapse of the Bank of the Commonwealth. His former partner, Eric Menden, is now serving an 11-year prison sentence. (Inside Business)
