Guy Tower, executive director of The Virginia Bar Association, plans to retire July 31 of next year.
Tower, 69, said the retirement will provide “an opportune time for a transition” for the VBA and himself. Tower became executive director of the association in 2005. His career included partnerships at Hunton & Williams and Kaufman & Canoles law firms, serving as a founding member of The McCammon Group, and serving as director of judicial education for the Supreme Court of Virginia.
After he retires, Tower said he may return to active practice as a mediator in business law cases.
“The broad experience he brought to the VBA propelled our organization to new heights,” VBA President Steve Busch said in a statement. “This is evidenced by our legislative successes, enhanced relationships with other bar-related organizations and the Supreme Court of Virginia and the excellent staff that he has developed to support our mission.”
Busch said that the association’s executive committee would oversee a search for Tower’s successor.
