Southwest is not getting short shrift
January 01, 2009 12:01 AM

Guy Crowgey’s letter to the editor (December 2008) praising a story about business in the New River Valley because “this area of the state is given short shrift” is lacking a basic level of understanding of the media in Western Virginia.

For the past 20 years, coverage of business in this region has been exemplary, thanks to the efforts of the Blue Ridge Business Journal (which was absorbed and redirected by The Roanoke Times in mid-2008) and more recently Valley Business FRONT, a new business magazine based in Roanoke.

Coverage has been wide and deep with a feel for the culture, the business climate and the people who form that culture and climate.

I suspect that if you would ask business professionals in this region if they are “given short shrift” by the business press, they’d answer with a resounding, “No, sir.”
