Single terms work bettter
To the Editor,
I read with interest Robert Powell’s article in which he advocated that Virginia governors serve two terms because they all have political ambitions [“Single terms don’s satisfy governors’ ambitions,” June issue]. True, they do. But because they can only serve one term at a time, Virginia governors tend to spend their time being good governors rather than spending their first term running for re-election.
If they seriously want to serve a second term, they can take the intervening four years to raise money and build up their political base, or they can move on to another political position to satisfy their ambitions.
