Construction of a $10 million training facility for the Washington Redskins will begin soon, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The newspaper reported that the Richmond City Council approved an amended version of the development agreement that will allow construction of the facility to begin. The deal also allows Bon Secours Richmond Health System to expand its Richmond Community Hospital in the East End and St. Mary’s Hospital in the West End.

The training facility will be built on state-owned land behind the Science Museum of Virginia.

City officials will put up the money for the training camp, but money is expected to be recouped through sponsorships and lease payments.

The Richmond Economic Development Authority has selected Hourigan Construction to serve as construction manager.

The Redskins have agreed to practice in Richmond for eight years. The training camp is expected to be completed for next summer’s training camp.
