California Cartage Co. signed a lease with the McDonald Development Co. for 385,320 square feet of space in Suffolk’s Virginia Commerce Center. Starting in July, Cal Cartage, a Long Beach, Calif.-based distribution and shipping company, will provide third party logistics for the Target Import Warehouse located nearby. The new operation is expected to employ 218 people. Cal Cartage will occupy the first of three buildings at the Virginia Commerce Center, a 101-acre site designed to offer 1.3 million square feet of Industrial space at full build out. The company cited Target’s import warehouse and ease of access to the Port of Virginia as the key factors behind its decision to locate in Suffolk.
