Weak economy bad for Virginia Beach tourism

The weak economy has meant a bad year for tourism at Virginia Beach. Oceanfront store owners have noticed a drop in tourists and the amount visitors are willing to spend. (The Virginian-Pilot)

Lord Fairfax Community College opened a $9.7 million science and health professions building last week. The first floor of the building is being used for classes, with the second floor scheduled to be opened by the end of this semester. Construction on the building was delayed when workers found Civil War artifacts on the site. (Northern Virginia Daily)

A federal judge ordered Richmond-based Massey Energy Inc. to rehire 85 union miners who lost their jobs with Massey took over a Kanawha County mine when its owner went into bankruptcy. ( The Associated Press)
