The newest major retail project in Powhatan, a 148,368-square-foot Walmart Supercenter, opens Friday, Oct. 26, following a 7:30 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony. The store, located on U.S. 60, about four miles west of Westchester Commons retail center, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The project brings approximately 300 new jobs to the area, with the average wage for full-time hourly associates at $12.10 per hour.
Grand opening events include product samplings and giveaways and the presentation of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to several local organizations including the Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Square.
The store offers general merchandise, groceries, fresh produce, a pharmacy, one-hour digital photo processing and an expanded electronics department.
