Virtual call center to create 100 jobs in Southwest Virginia
March 30, 2010 4:50 PM

DIRECTV and Convergys plan to create a virtual call center in Southwest Virginia that will employ 100 workers who will telework from home.

The call center will recruit from the New River Valley and Southwest Virginia.

“This project is unique in that these 100 new employees will complete online training and telework from home, saving transportation dollars and ensuring that the creation of the call center will have a positive economic impact on a broad area,” Gov. Bob McDonnell said in a statement.

Ellen Filipiak, senior vice president of customer service for Convergys, said Virginia was chosen because of its broadband infrastructure. She credited the Department of Business Assistance, several state development agencies, and U.S. Rep. Rick Boucher with facilitating the selection of Virginia.
