The Association of University Research Parks has named the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center its 2010 Outstanding Research Park.

The award recognizes parks that bolster the commercialization of technology and promote the growth of businesses, jobs and public revenue.

The Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center includes 27 buildings with about 1 million square feet of space on a 120-acre campus next to Virginia Tech. The center includes 140 private companies that employ more than 2,200 people.

VT Knowledge Works, an incubator program at the center, is working with more than 50 startup companies.

The association’s 15th annual awards also named the Science + Technology Park at Johns Hopkins and New Eastside Community in Baltimore as the 2010 Emerging Research/Science Park, and Fraunhofer USA of Plymouth, Mich. for its research centers in Delaware Technology Park and M Square Research Park.
