Virginia improves traffic management system
May 23, 2012 1:56 PMThe Virginia Department of Transportation has upgraded its real-time traffic information system to help Virginia motorists plan their best routes for travel.
Now motorists can download to their iPhone or Android a free mobile app that features real-time traffic cameras, travel times, electronic message signs and traffic maps.
As part of new Virginia 511 system, the state agency also improved its http://www.511virginia.org website and upgraded the 511 phone service with a better voice recognition system.
The agency is trying to break even on the project by selling sponsorships on 511 signs.
