Virginia Business Stock Index rises 10.34 percent in May
July 01, 2009 12:00 AMThe Virginia Business Stock Index rose more than 10 percent in May, outperforming major market measurements such as the Dow Jones industrial average.
The Virginia index of 50 stocks rose 10.34 percent in May while the Dow was up 4.06 percent, the S&P 500 index increased 5.31 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite index edged up 3.32 percent.
Overall 34 of the 50 stocks in the Virginia index gained during the month while 16 declined.
The stock making the biggest percentage gain in May was Genworth Financial Inc., which was up 150.85 percent.
