Virginia Business has selected TecAccess as its 2007 Small Business Success story of the year. The Goochland County-based company is a leader in making technology accessible to the disabled. One hundred seventy-five companies initially were nominated for the award. Of those, 48 firms submitted complete entries.
This is the third year the magazine has recognized the contribution of small businesses to the state’s economy. The February 2008 issue includes a cover story on TecAccess, founded by Debra Ruh in 2000, the finalist from the Central Virginia area. Three other regional winners are also profiled. They are: Zimmerman Marine, Hampton Roads; Rugs Direct, Northern Virginia; and Magnetic Technologies, Western Virginia.
In addition, the magazine named two semi finalists from each region: Peoples Income Tax Inc. and Packet360 Inc., Central Virginia; Paul Finch & Associates PC and Spectrum, Hampton Roads; Charron Consulting Inc. and Financial Investments Inc., Northern Virginia; and Spectrum Design and Chase Investment Counsel Corp., Western Virginia.
Virginia Business announced the winners yesterday during an awards luncheon at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. To be eligible for the Small Business Success Story of the year, companies must be in business for five years, have at least one owner active in the business, be profitable and have fewer than 100 employees. The winner for 2006 was NanoSonic Inc. of Blacksburg. The honor for 2005 went to David Nygaard Fine Jewelers of Virginia Beach.
Debra Ruh at TecAccess has Accomplished so much in such a short time. The lives of the individuals have been transformed in the company and the excellence of their work is greatly appreciated. Debra has started an endeavor which could be duplicated in many states. It is a substantially good business model.
