Virginia agricultural exports reached an all-time high in 2011, Gov. Bob McDonnell said Tuesday.
In 2011, Virginia exported $2.35 billion in agricultural products, up more than 6 percent over 2010 and up 2 percent over 2009, the previous record.
The top three export customers were Morocco, with an export market of $360 million worth of Virginia’s agricultural products; China, with exports of $304 million; and Canada, with $220 million of exports.
Last year, Virginia opened trade offices in India and China. McDonnell has asked the General Assembly this year to appropriate money to focus on exports to Eastern Europe, North Africa and Central America.
