Ritz-Carlton at Pentagon City marks 20 years
- June 2, 2010
For vacationers seeking a taste of the big city, The Ritz-Carlton, Pentagon City, offers easy access to the nation’s capital from a little-known perch across the Potomac River. Centrally located just minutes from downtown D.C., Crystal City and Rosslyn, Arlington’s only Mobil Four-Star hotel celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with a series of events running through December.
“I don’t think people search for Pentagon City because it’s not one of the locations that pops into mind,” says General Manager Angella Reid. “There’s a whole playground that exists around it that people aren’t very attuned to. It appears to be off the beaten path; that it is so central is a well-kept secret.”
That playground includes not only the Ritz-Carlton’s accommodations and pool but also the adjacent Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, anchored by Macy’s and Nordstrom. Also nearby: Arlington Cemetery, Old Town Alexandria and Capitol Hill.
The hotel opened in May 1990. In 2007, it refurbished the property’s 366 rooms. Fifteen members of the hotel’s original staff still work at the Ritz-Carlton and had a hand in planning some of the anniversary events, including special cocktails, menu selections and promotional pairings with the area’s retail establishments.
