Unemployment up in Virginia

The unemployment rate in Virginia reached 4.6 percent in November, when more than 17,761 workers joined the state’s unemployment rolls.

The rate represented a percentage point increase of 0.4 from October and was 1.7 percentage points above the unemployment rate in November 2007. The total number of jobless Virginians reached 190,847.

In November, Northern Virginia had the lowest unemployment rate at 3.4 percent and the Danville area had the highest rate at 11.8 percent.
