The University of Mary Washington named its first female president on Monday.

The university’s Board of Trustees chose Judy G. Hample, the chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The group oversees the Pennsylvania’s 14 public universities.

Before that, she was a vice chancellor for Florida’s board of rectors and held other academic roles and professorships at colleges in Indiana, Illinois, Kansas and Ohio.

Hample signed a five-year contract with the school.

The search for a new president began after William Frawley was fired by the university’s board of visitors after he was arrested for two DUIs.
