A pioneer, a power broker, an executive. An attorney who’s an expert in specialty lease transactions. A property manager. These are some of the roles played by Virginia’s Top Women in Commercial Real Estate.
In a new project, we invited readers to submit nominations for leading women in the industry, and they responded. The editorial staff of Virginia Business considered the nominations of 22 women representing 10 firms across Virginia. Selecting just five was a daunting task.
What does it take to succeed in commercial real estate, especially in these recessionary times? Hard work. Commitment. The ability to respond quickly and creatively. In addition to their jobs, we were impressed that many women still find time to mentor others and serve as leaders in their communities and professional associations.
Is everything wonderful for women in real estate? Not yet. A recent national survey conducted by the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) network showed that parity is still lacking in opportunity and pay. However, plenty of women wield power as projects get financed, built, leased and managed. Check out our profiles to learn how these Virginia women stay on top of their game.
