Nobody in Virginia in the past few years has gotten big as fast as NetWitness. Credit its experts and cutting-edge technologies in the field of network security. Plus an increasing threat of cyber attacks has fueled growth at this Northern Virginia company.
“If you look over just the past five years … you’ve basically got a world of individuals and groups attacking the good guys,” says Eddie Schwartz, vice president and chief security officer for NetWitness.
Government and defense-related entities are key clients, and the company is seeing more interest from private-sector clients. Social networking sites, banks and e-commerce websites are realizing that cyber threats to computer systems can affect them, too. “They’ve realized they have to take this seriously,” says Schwartz.
NetWitness tops our list of the 25 fastest-growing companies in Virginia, because of its impressive revenue growth. Revenues rose from $251,000 in its first year in 2006 to $19.7 million in 2009.
The list is based on percentage increase in revenue growth from 2006 to 2009 and reflects the intense demand for technology solutions and professional services, particularly in the government sector. Many of the companies hail from Northern Virginia, although there is a sprinkling from other parts of the state.
Data for the list comes from Virginia Business and Inc. magazine’s 2010 list of the 500 fastest-growing businesses in the country.
