Peter A. Spina of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., will become interim president at Tidewater Community College (TCC) on March 1. Glenn DuBois, chancellor of Virginia’s Community Colleges, announced his appointment Tuesday. Spina will succeed current President Deborah DiCroce who is leaving to become president and CEO of the nonprofit Hampton Roads Community Foundation.
“With him on board, Tidewater won’t miss a beat in moving forward, as it secures its next permanent president,” DuBois said in a statement. Spina is expected to lead the college for up to six months, or until DiCroce’s successor is named.
Currently a higher education consultant, Spina is president emeritus of Monroe Community College in Rochester. After retiring from Monroe, he became executive director of the Institute for Community College Development in Cornell. Spina served as an interim president once before for Virginia’s Community Colleges, filling in at Thomas Nelson in Newport News in 2003-04 when a search for a permanent president was under way there. After leaving, he served for four years as interim president at the State University of New York Institute of Technology, Utica.
