Surry planners recommend coal power plant

The Surry County Planning Commission has recommended approval of a coal-fired power plant to the Dendron Town Council and Surry’s Board of Supervisors, according to The Virginian-Pilot.

The county had asked the planners to review questions on changes required to Surry’s and Dendron’s comprehensive plans to allow construction of the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative’s $6 billion plant.

The plant would become Virginia’s largest coal-fired plant.

Opponents are concerned about the effect of emissions from the plant.
