The move by Tysons Corner to become more urban friendly is poised to get underway with the approval by the county’s Board of Supervisors for a rezoning that allows the first of several proposed new projects. Spring Hill Station, which is being developed by McLean-based Georgelas Group, will bring several high-rise apartment towers to the office and retail center. The buildings will be located adjacent to the Spring Hill Metro Station, with service to Tysons expected by December 2013.
Several other rezoning applications that will add more residential, office and retail space to an urban hub with eventually four metro stations are in the pipeline. The JBG Cos. already has broken ground on Tysons West, a mix-used project at Route 7 and Westwood Center Drive. The first phase will include a Walmart grocery store and fitness center. When built out, the development will have retail, residential and commercial spaces and a renovated Sheraton Premiere Hotel. Tysons West is located a block away from Spring Hill Metro Station.
