Citybizlist in Washington, D.C., reports that the former Value City Department Store at Newport Square Plaza, located at 836 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News, has sold and will be redeveloped as a multimillion dollar, mixed-use project containing Stratford University’s newest campus. Waters Edge Church also plans to put its third location at the site.
According to Citybizlist, Newport Square Partners LP ground-leased to Campus Realty Investors LC the 91,000-square-foot building. Stratford University has leased 63,020 square feet of the space and Waters Edge Church leased the remaining 27,562 square feet.
Stratford University plans to open Monday with four schools: culinary, business, healthcare and information technology. Waters Edge will start church services this Fall.
The project developer is TGM Realty Investors Inc. Dawn F. Griggs and Teresa E. Nettles of Cushman & Wakefield| Thalhimer’s Newport News office handled lease negotiations.
