Greensville County is the first locality in Virginia certified for an industrial megasite. CSX Corp., a Jacksonville, Fla.-based railroad
company, hired McCallum Sweeny Consulting to identify major manufacturing sites in states it serves. The 1,500-acre site on I-95 near the
Virginia-North Carolina border, is now considered suitable for automotive assembly operations and other advanced manufacturing uses. (News

Nationwide Homes Inc., a manufacturer of mobile homes, laid off 80 workers at its Martinsville operation, citing the downturn in the housing
market. About 280 workers remain at the Martinsville facility. Workers at Nationwide plants in Georgia and North Carolina were not affected.

Sam’s Club will open a 138,000-square-foot retail operation in Danville, employing approximately 150 people. The facility, near Westover and
