The founder of a company that makes rapid-deployable shelters for the military has become the become the majority shareholder of South Boston-based Lindstrand USA.
With Base-X founder Bea Maurer as majority shareholder, Lindstrand USA has become a woman-owned, small business.
Per Lindstrand, the founder of Lindstrand USA, and Angela Lewis will remain minority shareholders of the company.
Lindstrand USA manufactures lighter-than-air vehicles and air cell inflatable structures.
Base-X is now a part of Hunter Defense Technologies, which is based in Rockbridge County..
The company began operations in South Boston in 2004.
Last year, it received the Tayloe Murphy Resilience Award in the manufacturing/wholesale category from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. The award recognizes companies that grow and create jobs in economically depressed areas of the state.
“I am thrilled to be working with such an innovative and fast-growing company,“ Maurer said in a statement. “I feel Lindstrand USA’s vision integrates closely with my own.“
Lindstrand USA is expanding its line of aerostats and airships to include a newly developed mooring station.
Lindstrand USA will also be introducing commercial products to the marketplace.
