January 03, 2012 5:15 PM

Herndon-based Sotera Defense Solutions, a national security technology company, has completed its acquisition of Chantilly-based Potomac Fusion Inc.

Potomac Fusion develops data fusion, data analytics, cyber and visualization solutions for the U.S. intelligence community and Department of Defense Tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission systems.

“This business combination is a natural fit – joining two organizations with the same emphasis on agility, ingenuity and integrity and a strong commitment to the national security mission,” John Hillen, Sotera’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “The addition of Potomac Fusion’s expertise in cloud computing architectures, data fusion and data analytics expands the broad range of support we can provide to help our national security customers achieve their missions at home and abroad.“

Potomac Fusion was founded in 2002 . The company now has more than 200 employees delivering cloud architecture and software engineering solutions.  The company expected 2011 revenues to total about $40 million.

Now a subsidiary of Sotera, Potomac Fusion will be led by Russell Richardson.
