The Shooshan Co. in Arlington has awarded KBR Building Group, based in Charlotte, N.C., a contract to provide construction services for a major mixed-use project. The Place is part of Founders Square, a 1.2 million-square-foot, mixed-use development in Arlington, located in the Ballston neighborhood, near Washington’s metro transportation line.
The 17-story, 238,060 square-foot residential tower at 4000 Wilson Blvd. will have four levels of below-grade parking and 8,500 square feet of ground-floor retail. KBR Building Group’s regional office in Vienna is leading the construction, which is underway. RTKL Associates, Inc. is the architect.

Amenities for The Place will include a rooftop terrace two year-round spas, a resident-use bar and interior clubroom with expansive views of Washington, D.C. The Place is being constructed on an existing site previously occupied by the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority bus depot. The development includes a recently completed 13-story, commercial office building, home to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), a 183-unit Residence Inn by Marriott scheduled to be completed in spring 2013 and a 20-story, 420,000-square-foot office tower that will be the tallest building in Ballston.

Leasing is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2013 with initial resident occupancy by fall of that year.
