Senate committee predicts $3.2 billion shortfall
- November 21, 2008
A new state Senate Finance Committee report predicts the shortfall for Virginia’s biennial budget could reach $3.2 billion, rather than the $2.5 billion Gov. Timothy M. Kaine predicted last month.
Members of the House of Delegates’ Appropriations Committee heard similar news earlier this week.
Both agree that all areas of government will face cuts, including Medicaid and public education, which has largely been spared in budget cuts so far.
Kaine will present his budget on Dec. 17.
