In one of the hottest summers on record, Virginians’ electric bills are soaring. But how do your bills compare to your friends and neighbors?
Now Virginians can find out in an online program sponsored by the Virginia State Corporation Commission. The site, http://www.VirginiaEnergySense.org, is the core of the SCC’s consumer education program to help people use less electricity.
The website includes tips and resources on lowering heating and cooling costs. It also allows users to track energy consumption, compare their usage with friends and neighbors and earn rewards from retailers for reducing consumption. The SCC partnered with Earth Aid to provide this tool.
The program is in line with the General Assembly’s goal to reduce electricity usage by 10 percent by 2022.
This is a laudable program. Not only do Virginian’s get to save on power bills but they also receive premium gifts from businesses.
Now, if only we can finally graduate from fossil fuel based energy sources and on to mass solar and wind energy production. That would really be something.

Usually my bills are higher and it seems that I can’t lower it, no matter what I do..
