SAIC receives contract for tsunami buoy systems
- February 25, 2010
Government contractor SAIC has received a contract to build and maintain three SAIC Tsunami Buoy (STB) systems for the Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services.
The systems will be part of network of tsunami buoy systems in the Bay of Bengal and off the northwest Indian coast. The systems will provide data to assess the magnitude of tsunamis in the Indian Ocean. The Bay of Bengal is one of the most seismically active regions in the world and is located near the 2004 tsunami that killed an estimated 220,000 lives.
