Three Virginia-based companies have been honored for their commitment to better transparency, accountability, and citizenship practices.
Corporate Responsibility magazine ranked Henrico County-based Altria Group Inc., Norfolk-based Norfolk Southern Corp. and Richmond-based Dominion Resources Inc. as “Best Corporate Citizens” in 2011. Altria ranked 35th, while Norfolk Southern was 79th and Dominion was ranked 83rd.
The ranking of 100 firms took into account a company’s commitment to the environment, climate change, human rights, employee relations, corporate governance, philanthropy and financial health. Altria was the only tobacco company on the list.
Johnson Controls Inc. took the list’s top spot.
