Falls Church-based General Dynamics reported that earnings per share from continuing operations rose 7.6 percent in the third quarter.
The defense contractor said earnings from continuing operations reached $665 million, or $1.83 per share on a fully diluted basis, in the quarter ending Sept. 30. By comparison, the company had 2010 third-quarter earnings from continuing operations of $649 million, or $1.70 per share fully diluted.
Net earnings for the third quarter of 2011 were $652 million, up from $650 million the year before. Net earnings on a per-share, fully diluted basis were $1.80 in the current quarter, an increase of 5.9 percent.
Revenues for the third quarter of 2011were $7.9 billion. Operating earnings were $998 million, an increase of 3.3 percent over third-quarter 2010.
