The Patrick Henry Hotel in downtown Roanoke People will celebrate a $20 million renovation on Thursday with a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. It will showcase nearly two years’ worth of work on the hotel, which first opened in 1925. The Patrick Henry closed in 2007. Then in 2009, developer Ed Walker purchased the historic building and has transformed it into a mixed-use project of apartments and commercial space. Nearly all of the 132 apartments have been rented, with several floors of the building reserved for students at the nearby Jefferson College of Health Sciences. Commercial tenants include a restaurant, a coffee and donut shop, a law firm and a radio station.
