Owens & Minor shifts executive roles

Medical supplier Owens & Minor Inc. has named a new chief operating officer in a shift of executive roles.

James L. Bierman, the company’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, will become executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Charles C. Colpo, the company’s current executive vice president and chief operating officer, will become senior vice president, operations.

The company said the shift is designed to better align leadership to its initiatives and goals.

Bierman, who has been with Owens & Minor since 2007, will be responsible for the company’s field sales and operations. He will retain responsibility for global sourcing and product management, in addition to his primary role in investor relations.

Colpo, who joined Owens & Minor in 1981, will lead the company’s initiatives to improve and modernize the company’s distribution processes, including leading a three-year project to transform the company’s information technology systems.

D. Andrew Edwards, who is vice president, controller and chief accounting officer, will become interim CFO while an independent search for the position is conducted.
