Albemarle County’s luxurious Keswick Resort soon will be under new ownership. An Orient Express Hotels Ltd. spokesperson in New York confirmed Monday that the United Kingdom-based company has entered into an agreement to sell the 600-acre luxury hotel property, country club and surrounding real estate development property to an undisclosed buyer.
Orient-Expresss will continue to operate the 48-room hotel, club and estate until the deal closes later this month.
Several Charlottesville-area news organizations, including NBC 29, The Daily Progress and The Hook, have named Bill Goodwin as the buyer. Goodwin, a prominent Richmond philanthropist and businessman, heads CCA Industries, a holding company that already owns several resort properties including The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond and the Kiawah Island golf resort in South Carolina.
Goodwin was out of town and could not be reached for comment on Monday. His administrative assistant said she could not comment on the sale. Orient Express reportedly bought the Keswick properties in 1999 for an estimated $13.5 million from Sir Bernard Ashley.
