Orbital Sciences receives NASA contract worth at least $125 million
August 02, 2010 4:55 AMNASA has selected Orbital Sciences to be the prime contractor on a five-year rocket operations contract.
The Sounding Rocket Operations Contract, a part of NASA’s small rockets program, has a maximum value of $310 million over five years, with an expected value of at least $125 million.
Under the contract, Dulles-based Orbital will coordinate rocket missions and will work with NASA to develop advanced sounding rocket capabilities. Sounding rockets are smaller launch vehicles used for high-altitude research. The work will be done at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
