Online holiday shopping was up 11 percent on Black Friday, according to Reston-based comScore.

Holiday shoppers spent $595 million online on the day after Thanksgiving. In addition, online shopping during the first month of this holiday season is up 3 percent to $10.6 billion.

“Black Friday, better known as a shopping bonanza in brick-and-mortar retail stores, is increasingly becoming one of the landmark days in the online holiday shopping world,” said comScore Chairman Gian Fulgoni in a statement.

Fulgoni suggested the increased sales could reflect discounts and promotions on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

“Cyber Monday — the traditional kick-off to the online holiday shopping season — and the subsequent weeks will be the real test for how online retailers fare this season,” Fulgoni said.
