PAETEC Holding Corp. has signed a lease to open a new data center in McLean. The Fairport, N.Y.-based company,  which provides communications solutions, plans to renovate a three-story, 62,500 square-foot-building into a data center that will serve businesses and government agencies along the East coast. Plans call for 49,000 square feet of raised floor space to be available to customers to collocate their servers, routers, and communication equipment. The renovation is expected to take seven months, with the center opening at the end of this year. Partners National Real Estate Group represented PAETEC in lease negotiations.

In another development, DuPont Fabros Technology Inc. put a 23-acre tract in Ashburn under contract to expand its data center footprint in Loudoun County.  The acquisition cost is $9.6 million. The site is close to Digital Realty Trust’s campus, which also is expanding its data center operations. Digital recently paid $17.3 million for the 38 acres adjoining its site.
