Norfolk-Richmond cargo service begins
December 01, 2008 8:39 AM

The river-based cargo service between Norfolk and Richmond makes its first trip between the cities today.

James River Barge Line was sold last week by T. Parker Host Inc. to Norfolk Tug. Co. After the deal, the name changed to 64 Express barge line, according to The Virginian-Pilot.

The business plan will remain the same. Once a week, the barge will travel between the cities, carrying up to 128, 20-foot cargo containers. From Norfolk, containers will be shipped overseas. From Richmond, the cargo will be loaded onto trucks and distributed to stores. (The Virginian-Pilot
