Newport News shipyard receives $80 million contract to repair aircraft carrier
March 18, 2010 9:57 AM

Northrop Grumman Corp. Shipbuilding has received an $80.1 million contract to plan for the overhaul and refueling of the USS Abraham Lincoln, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.

If all options are exercised, the contract could be worth $678.6 million.

Northrop Grumman will be responsible for planning, design, documentation, engineering material acquisition, shipboard inspections and preliminary shipyard work. More than 1,000 employees will be part of the planning effort.

“Lincoln’s RCOH will be a large and complex project,“ Jim Hughes, Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding’s vice president of aircraft carrier overhaul and carrier fleet support, said in a statement.

Abraham Lincoln was built by Northrop Grumman and delivered to the Navy in 1989.
