A familiar landmark in Tysons Corner is no more. The longtime Moore Cadillac dealership, located at the intersection of Route 7 and Westwood Center Drive in Fairfax County, has been demolished to make way for a mixed-use, transit-oriented community known as Tysons West. General contractor L.F. Jennings of Falls Church said Wednesday that it has finished the demolition and is starting construction at the 16-acre site.
The contractor is focusing on a redo of a 211,500-square-foot parking structure, coupled with 182,000 square feet of new construction. The mixed-use project will include retail, restaurant space, a fitness center and a six-story office tower. In addition, Tysons West will host one of six new Wal-Mart stores coming to the Washington, D.C., metro area.
T he developer, JBG Rosenfeld, purchased the site in 2008 with plans of creating an urban destination with convenient access to the Tysons West metro platform. The development is just one block from the future Silver Line Metro stop. “This is a unique project for several reasons, but the greatest contributing factor is the timing. Tysons West is setting a benchmark early on for what other transitoriented communities along this corridor will emulate for years to come,” Mike Killelea, L.F. Jennings vice president of business development, said in a statement. The project’s expected completion date is Feb. 15, 2013.
