New subsidiary formed to charge electric vehicles
August 31, 2009 9:51 AM

A Wytheville-based transformer company has started a subsidiary to produce charging systems for electric cars.

MTC Transformers began Evatran LLC with the aim of helping more consumers switch to electricity-powered vehicles.

Company officials say Evatran’s Plugless Power system is designed to make charging an electric vehicle or hybrid more convenient. They say research has shown that many potential buyers are concerned about the hassle of recharging electric cars.

I       According to Evatran, its product uses inductive charging technology to eliminate the need for a plug.

MTC Transformers was named to the Fantastic 50, a list of the state’s fastest-growing companies, in 2007 and 2008. It also has been ranked on the Inc. 5,000 for the past two years.
