Danville’s economy continued on the road to recovery with the announcement that a Polish manufacturer of mattresses and upholstered furniture will open a factory employing 813 people, Com.40 Ltd., based in Nowe Skalmierzyce, Poland, will invest $36.3 million in the factory, which will be located in an existing building of nearly 1 million square feet. Production is expected to begin in October.

Com.40 Ltd., an 8-year-old privately held company, is a key supplier to IKEA, the Swedish home furnishings retailer. IKEA’s furniture making subsidiary, Swedwood, recently built its first U.S. factory in Danville. The $281 million plant began operation in January and is expected to create up to 740 jobs.

The Danville area has been hard hit by the layoffs and closures in the textile and furniture industries. “Danville continues its extraordinary rebound,” Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said in announcing the new plant.
