New Horizons Healthcare will host a grand-opening ceremony for its new 32,000-square-foot medical facility on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 3716 Melrose Ave. in downtown Roanoke.  Festivities will get underway at 5:30 p.m. with tours of the building available until 7:30 p.m. and throughout the week.

Funding for the project came from a $10.7 million Affordable Care Act grant in 2010. The new facility features 21 medical examination rooms, an onsite pharmacy, dental clinic, X-ray room and space for future expansion in mental health, pediatrics and family medicine.

“The main benefits of the new building are its large size to accommodate a growing clinic and new services,” Elieen Lepro, New Horizons Healthcare executive director, said in a statement.
New Horizons Healthcare began as Kuumba Community Health & Wellness Center in 1999 in response to a grassroots effort to improve the health of residents of northwest Roanoke.
