Old Dominion University officials begged Gov. Timothy M. Kaine on Wednesday to restore state funds for its Modeling & Simulation Center during the center’s 10th birthday celebration, The Virginian-Pilot reported.
The General Assembly cut $1 million from the $4 million Kaine proposed in its two-year budget. In the previous two-year budget cycle, the center received $8 million. Kaine told the center on Wednesday that his staff was exploring ways to restore the funding. ODU officials have said without the additional $1 million, it would have to cut 12 to 15 research positions at the center.
Virginia Business covered the state’s growing modeling and simulation industry in its cover story in May 2006.
